Bigger for the Better?

Many schools have playgrounds for all years, and Bellaire Primary does too, but whether the Middle and Senior playground is safe or not is an issue the staff and students debate about. Some say that the playground looks shabby, needs new things and new paint. Others say it’s fine for the amount of people who use it. Does the Middle and Senior playground really need re-doing?

Bellaire Primary School’s library teacher thinks the Middle and Senior playground really needs re-doing or t least some improvements made. Debra B said the playground should be altered if it were to stay. She also said it needs some improvements such as a new coat of paint and maybe some new equipment added like a climbing net, rock climbing wall, treadmill or a slide are just some of her suggestions. Mrs B thinks it’s important that the older children still have this option.

Bellaire grade 5 student Macka H disbelieves with Mrs B and thinks the playground is perfectly fine. He says not many people use this playground so there is no point in making improvements. Macka said, “It’s big enough!”. He believes that the school shouldn’t be putting money towards this playground because it’s big enough for the amount of people who use it. Macka also said , “Not many people use that playground.”. He thinks that other things like the oval are probably more important but the playground is something different to do for the kids who don’t like to play other sports.

Therefore whether the Middle and Senior playground at Bellaire Primary is perfectly fie or in the needs of a make-over is still and issue that the staff and students at Bellaire debate about.
